Rape Buzz was inspired by a rape case filed by a young woman against a Swiss national in Dumaguete City. A group of women and men rallied around to support the woman, which eventually led to the creation of Gender Watch Against Violence and Exploitation, an NGO that focuses on assisting survivors of gender-based violence. The rape case is unpacked through monologues of five different characters, revealing the web of social and cultural factors that have contributed to the perpetuation of sexual violence against women, especially minors. The monologues are interspersed with actual excerpts from the attending fiscal’s resolution.
